Driver Restraint System Fault Bmw E60
I have a 530d E60 BMW.For some months now I have had a Restraint system faulty messsge.' Restraint system faultyRestraint systemsFunction of airbags, belt tensioners and belt force limiters faulty. Ensure your seat belt is fastened despite the fault'The seat belts work fine.I have read elsewhere that is could be a fault in the drivers seat where a sensor is located. I believe in the US they did a mass recall. How do I go about fixing the problem myself without taking it to a BMW garage? Many thanks.

Hi guys Just putting this up as it may help a few people as the restraint system fault is quite common. My restraint light was coming on constantly ev.
Thanks for you comments so far. I have checked the fuse (no 29 in glove carpartment and it looked okay but I put a new one in anyway). Hi,I am having a similar SRS alarm problem along with some battery probs.I've had my 2005 525d for 2 years now but last Dec the ame SRS alarm appeared on the display. I had a service booked for Jan but the week before the service the car alarm started going off in the night and battery was too low to start car. Even when I left alarm unset it started a very strange high pitch beeping during the night beep for 30 secs silence then nothing for 10 secs then beeping for 30 then silence over and over for a number of minutes. Eventually it seemed that the car was completely dead and no lights would appear on console when trying to turn the key in the ignition.
I left car until day of service and jump started it to get to the dealership.Their prognosis was that the SRS ECU is faulty and needs to be replaced and wanted £800 for part and 'labour' to replace. Well first off it sounds like the car needs to be checked for a parasitic drain, the battery should be removed and fully charged using a suitable charger, especially if it's a calcium battery as a standard charger will not fully charge the battery. If removing the battery is going to be a pain then disconnect one of the battery terminals so you can get it charged up.Once you have done this you will either need to drop it into the dealers or take the car to a good auto electricians to have it checked out.If you have a multimeter you could always check the vehicle charging rate yourself just to rule something out.
